Jazz in concert at the village Wed Nov 1

Hello Jazz at the Village supporters

It was great to see such an impressive roll-up for Tom Fell Sextet’s Tribute to Charles Mingus last night. I forgot to mention that, in my opinion, the three mandatory Mingus albums to acquire are Mingus Ah Um, Mingus Dynasty and Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus.

Owing to circumstances beyond my control, but congenial nevertheless, is the fact that it’s less than a fortnight to the Gary France Ensemble’s Tribute to Cal Tjader, a seven-piece celebration of Latin-American jazz (partly sponsored by Groove Warehouse). Please book with me ASAP at this address. It’s going to be another memorable night. Check the personnel on the poster.

If you plan to eat the optimum time to arrive is probably around 6.30 and the music will start at 7.30. Food is available from several outlets just outside the concert hall from 6pm. Food and drinks (from the bar) can be brought in.

Admission is still $22/$15 conc/ANU student cardholders $10.

All the best

Geoff

The Parlour Social – Sunday OCT 8

Canberra Jazz Club is thrilled to welcome local ragtime & stride pianist Robbie Mann and his band, The Parlour Social, to a “Jazz at Jamison” session Sunday 8 October 2017, commencing at 1pm.

Robbie has expanded his usual quartet to a seven-piece ensemble and he tells us this Dixieland trad band will have us jumping in our seats. He also promises some fun along the way as he takes some Classical masterpieces and gives them a ragtime rhythm.

Event is free. Lunch is available from 12pm.
