Dear CJC members
It is with deep sadness that I advise of the passing this morning of our beloved Margaret Moriarty. She had an amazing constitution and she tried so hard to stay with us but it wasn’t to be. Margaret took great comfort from the fact that most of her extended family have visited in recent days and her two sons have been by her side this past week. She also wanted some jazz played at her funeral and some music, too, from her sons and that is being organised.
We have lost the grand dame of Canberra jazz today and she can never be replaced. Margaret had many and varied interests but her passion was the Jazz Club. We will all have our own memories of Margaret but my fondest memory will be of this inspiring little lady with membership forms in hand, scouting all the jazz gigs for potential new members. She was tireless about telling people of the wonderful benefits of belonging to our Club and her endless enthusiasm for the CJC has made it the Club it is today.
She had a great community spirit which extended to many years as a voluntary guide at the Australian War Memorial and memberships of the Naval Association, the Woden RSL sub-branch, the Friends of the Botanical Gardens, to name a few. Her love of reading kept her involved with a variety of book clubs over many years.
Margaret had a great rapport with people from all works of life and she has an amazing group of friends and acquaintances. Her passing will no doubt be felt far and wide.
God bless you Margaret.
I will advise everyone when funeral details are known.
